Bug Description

During the configuration of the downloader, the script will not accept any input. Regardless of any selection it loops back to the same step. The only recourse is to kill the install which leaves the /var/cache/apt/archives/lock in a locked state and for me in my ignorance, requires a reboot to continue. On reboot I can finish the install.

Correction, After reboot, the lock is released but apt-get install apt-fast hangs at the same point. The only way to get through it is to choose custom and it will finish install. Then I have to go back and dpkg-reconfigure to set it the way I want it and it does let me select through the menus with this method.

Hi Eric, thank you for reporting this bug!
Please provide some information to let me reproduce this bug:
 * Which package version do you use, which Ubuntu version?
 * Which debconf frontend do you use (e.g. console dialog)?
 * Which questions come up to you and which selections do you make to this questions (before this loop)?
 * Do you have installed aria2 oder axel?

Please show:
debconf-show debconf apt-fast
dpkg -l aria2 axel | grep '^ii '

Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome-shell 3.6

The config script gets all the way to selecting one of the downloaders,
then no matter which on I select, it just blinks back to the downloader
selection menu. Like I said, rebooting, then using dpkg --reconfigure will
allow me to get through the menu ok. It's repeatable on two different
machines in my house, both running the same Ubuntu with different hardware.

Thank you for reporting this bug! A fix would be to move downloader questions to postinst (see rev #77 of lp:apt-fast).

But since apt-fast 1.8 only aria2 is supported. So there is no need to check which downloader is available (because of package dependencies)...
