Bug Description

Just as the summary. apport should add a tag to bug reports for crashes that occurred during session shutdown. There are a few ideas for heuristics we could use to determine this:

  - time delta between crash and apport dialog
  - checking if the XDG session cookie or D-Bus address is the same
  - consulting gnome-session at the time of the crash to see if it's still alive
  - other?

In any case, the information should be presented as a tag in the report.

Apport actually makes some effort to entirely ignore these (bug 460932, fixed by http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~apport-hackers/apport/trunk/revision/2058). This is the third item in your list; however, this is currently rather brittle, and it presumably needs to be a bit more aggressive.

trunk r2746 now does not produce popups any more at the start of the desktop session which concern crashes from ealier sessions. I think this should sufficiently alleviate this problem to close this bug.
