Update count badge remains even after apt upgrade in terminal

Bug Description
Whenever there is a notification of available updates and the icon in the dock/plank has the update counter badge displayed, I then open up terminal and run:
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
This installs the available updates but the red badge in the AppCenter icon on the plank dock with the number of updates counter remains and does not clear.
