New Wave theme has strange volume slider

Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-themes-ubuntu
The New Wave theme slider in the panel volume control recently became this strange orange blob. Before it was like the regular sliders. See attached screenshot. Tried changing restarting, changing theme to something else, then back again. Nothing can set it right again.

That slider changes from Ubuntu update to update and I think the problem is not in my theme because I have no spacial code for sliders in the menubar or anywhere else for that matter.
