Bug Description

Summary
=======
After installing todays updates (using Update Manager) 30 Jan 2009, required reboot, all sound stopped working on my Acer Aspire 5630 (5633wmli) with ALC883 sound card.
Tinkering with alsa config (+reboot) made work again (see below).

Adding

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and rebooting solved the problem.

@PapyRobert, It seems you have a different sound card that David so you should open a new bug report. The following document has some other options you may want to try for your particular card (eg. eeepc-p701)

I have an iMac 9,1 with the same problem: no audio from internal speakers or headphone jack. The solution did not fix my problem, and I think you mean "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf"
