Bug Description

Hi,

Using Intrepid (Daily - Oct 9 2008) I've found that my Delta 66 does not show up in the list of available sound cards. It does however, show up if I run an lspci...

Logs below: Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tom

Anybody? I can confirm that my Delta 66 shows up with the 64Studio Live CD (which is quite old)... Has something broken?

Two more things:

1. I am running the AMD64 version of Intrepid.
2. I now know what it is - the following website helped:

http://blog.tryphon.org/alban/archives/2008/08/07/m-audio-delta-66-rev-e-in-the-house/

These guys could only get the Rev. E Delta 66 working by commenting out code for the CS8427 SPDIF chipset. (Essentially making it a Delta 44) I'm unsure if the latest ALSA has this fixed or not.

Also - I didn't realise the following was part of the problem:

[ 33.821734] ICE1712 0000:01:07.0: PCI INT A -> Link[APC2] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
*****Start Here
[ 33.843528] invalid CS8427 signature 0x0: let me try again...
[ 33.843940] unable to find CS8427 signature (expected 0x71, read 0x0),
[ 33.843978] initialization is not completed
[ 33.844026] CS8427 initialization failed
*****End Here
[ 33.844088] ICE1712 0000:01:07.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 33.844094] ICE1712: probe of 0000:01:07.0 failed with error -14

Is there now any chance of a (partial or full) fix for this?

Did you try the fix listed in the last comment on the ALSA bug report here?

https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3327

Apparently it works if configured as a Delta 1010LT:
  modprobe snd-ice1712 model=delta1010lt

I'm on the fence about buying a Delta 66, and am waiting for positive feedback from an Ubuntu user.

OK, on a live CD of Intrepid (daily) I have:

edited /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-utils and added the following:

options snd-ice1712 model=delta1010lt

then saved.

typed 'sudo alsa force-reload' at the prompt - which picks up the card.

'sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui' (for envy24control - would this be automagically installed if detected?)

'envy24control &' (including the ampersand to keep the console available)

Turned DAC 4,5,6,7 up to bring sound to outputs 1 & 2
'aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav' then gives you a burst of static white noise.

THANK YOU!!!!! :-D

Tom

Did you test the analog and digital I/O, or just the analog I/O? I'd be curious to see if switching the model enables all functionality including SPDIF. Thanks.

Hi Larry,

I've only tried the output for now, as the card now seems to lock up after a while. I think it may be hardware issues for me :(

Tom,

I've got an RME 9632 on the way based on reports of better audio quality over the M-Audio line and excellent Linux support.

Thanks for the testing on the Delta 66 card, though. Hopefully your bug report will help another Ubuntu user who gets a Rev E card.

Thanks.
Larry

I have placed a patch on the alsa-devel mailing list which works for me (which links across the latest version) and put a howto in the ubuntu forums, so hopefully this can be made fixed now! :)

(I will place the patch here when I get back to my development machine tonight)
