notification window/dialog box opens minimized to task bar

Bug Description

When a counter or alarm/reminder are created and a user selects either a standard window or a dialog box to be displayed in either cases window and dialog boxes start being minimized to the task bar and thus being virtually invisible to a busy with other tasks user.

In case a user occasionally turned sound off he runs a risk to miss the reminder. That actually happened in my case.

If I chose the reminder window/dialog box to be displayed I would like them to be rather nasty and pop up on top of everything.

But even better idea is to mimic Evolution alarm behavior. A default Ubuntu balloon notification is displayed. After this closed by user the application icon keeps flashing until clicked. If the icon clicked then the dialog box is open providing either snoozing or dismissing options.

The way it is currently implemented in Alarm Clock makes it rather inconvenient to change the snoozing option.

What window manager are you using? Are you sure that the windows are minimized, not "Below" other windows? I believe the window appeared below other windows, that's why it seemed minimized. If so, this is a known bug to me. I will need to work on this, because it's annoying me too (if I will forget to close Firefox, I won't be able to snooze the alarm in the morning, because the window will appear below firefox window and space key won't work and I'll have to get up).

Please, provide me with details on what is exactly going on, if it's the thing I've described, it will be fixed soon.

The problem should be fixed in 0.9.16. Please report back.

Hi,

First of all my apologies for not responding for such a long time. For personal reasons I've not had time even to check my e-mail.

Yes, you are right a dialog pops up below active windows, not minimized as I reported. My bad.

But as you agreed it's still annoying and prone to missing an alarm. Though my version is still 0.9.15.

BTW. If you'll get a minute to answer a question, please...

Is there any way and any plans to switch from selection of a week day of a month/year to just a particular calendar date while creating alarms? IMHO it would make using Alarm Clock way more convenient. Especially when it comes to a yearly alarm set.

You see, the way it is done now, it assumes that one would like an alarm being repeated each year on, let say, each Tuesday. That is not always the case. Speaking of me, I may want it to run on a specific date. And I do not want to look through a calendar is it going to be a Tuesday or any other week day.

I like your app. And such utility is badly missing in GNOME.

I use Evolution but its alarms are very much not reliable. I tried Kalarm (or whatever it's called). But, first, I hate KDE and I hate using KDE apps in GNOME. And, second, it just proved being in GNOME as much unreliable as Evolution alarm is.

Greetings,
Vito

You can archieve this by selecting "Single date" as an alarm type. There is another option - birthdays, you can select a date and alarm-clock icon will show up with exclamation mark.

Changing the scheduled alarms type will require to change the alarms file format, so people that are having alarms right now would need to rewrite them to new version of Alarm Clock.

I've been using Alarm Clock to sound ships bells, which means that I get an alarm every half hour with appropriate bell sounds. It's worked well for months using Ubuntu 8.10.
I've just upgraded to ubuntu 9.04. (Alarm Clock 0.9.18). Now, after each alarm the icon flashes until I click to acknowledge it. I don't want this as it's distracting. This must be a change introduced at the upgrade. I can't see any way to turn it off, yet surely there is no reason to assume that every alarm needs this reminder to be acknowledged. Can it be turned off in 'Preferenced' anywhere?
