I think the menu is quite nice, but a bit unsorted.

I would sort it like that:

Desktops

Places

Applications
––––––––––––––––
Webbrowser
File manager
Editor
Terminal
––––––––––––––––
User settings
System settings
––––––––––––––––
Install Semplice
About Semplice...

The important items are centered in the menu.

The reason for that is, I tend to put the mouse pointer there, when the menu opens.

That way, my mouse pointer is right under my favorite applications.
