would the performance of BQ Aquaris 4.5 be sufficient ?
At least it is based on Android 5.x

may I ask why ? In a future OTA can I at least activate it via command line or by installing additional packages ?

"Wireless Display support for Ubuntu-powered devices means a step further in Canonical's Ubuntu convergence vision, but unfortunately, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-11 update brought it only for the Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition smartphone, with a promise that the other devices would get the new feature in future OTAs."

I know you have a lot on your plate right now, too many things to do and not enough developers, and you have other priorities, but are you really saying that you aren't going to implement something that is present in the android version of the phone? We aren't talking about implementing a 3rd party app, this is something the hardware is capable of. This is the same as the FM radio, the BQ has FM radio and WiDi capabilities and you aren't going to take advantage of the hardware? When i bought the phone i wasn't expecting to have the same app collection, i can live without that because all i wanted was a phone that worked well. I also wasn't expecting an os with the same capabilities of android from the start, but i thought you would implement them with time. You aren't saying that you will implement these things when you have the time/man power, you just said you won't do it, period. Why? At least give us some hope, 1 year, 2 years, 3, to have the same features as the android version of the phone, and i'm not talking about apps because that isn't up to you, just the os. It makes me sad, because i knew what i was getting myself into when i bought the phone, i knew what to expect, but i had a lot of hope for this project, i was very happy because i thought you would keep supporting and developing for the first ever ubuntu phone for many years, now it seems the priority is bq m10 and meizu mx5. I thought the premise behind ubuntu touch was that all the phones would have the same os underneath, one codebase for all the devices, unlike android where every vendor implements it's own thing, and now you have two phones with the same feature but one won't be able to use it. That's like the android ecosystem where, if you want new features, you have to buy a new phone, i hoped this was going to be different... I apologise if i misunderstood something, or if i'm being unfair, but right now, this just makes me sad...

this is from the link (Feb 2016) in post #1:

"For which actual devices we will enable Miracast by default still
depends on different things. If the performance will be worse on a
particular device it doesn't make sense to enable Miracast support on
that device by default. However all software components will be there so
you could always then enable it on your own. That said and with keeping
in mind that we have things running only on __one__ device so far don't
take this as a comment to judge on support for any other device. Time
will tell."

I think many Aquaris 4.5 users (including myself) have previously signed the Ubuntu Edge campaign in 2013, and had to wait 2 more years before the first Ubuntu phone was ready. That's why it feels a bit disappointing.

I had bought the bq aquaris E5 specifically for the use with aethercast and have talked some aquaintances into getting the aquaris for that purpose. I feel very disappointed that we are being left out of this experience.

I would also like to test Aethercast on my BQ Aquaris E4.5. I don't expect fluid usability or exceptional performance. I just want to try it out and see what it is like. The first run of ubuntu phones were for ubuntu users to try out the new experience that is ubuntu touch and "convergence". I don't see why I should fork out for another better ubuntu phone that still doesn't truly handle "convergence" fluidly to test this feature (one of the most important features of all for convergence). You can just make it so it can be enabled in the terminal and then only users who understand the experience wont be top notch will bother to do it.

I can't understand why this device should not be supported. I want to use aethercast / convergence even if it would be very slow.

no longer affects: krillin

Does anybody have a hint for me what to patch on my Aquaris 4.5 to make it work? Would it work via aethercastctl or do I have to patch libhybris or other packages?
