Contact wiped after editing

Open contacts app
Find a contact with no email address
Swipe up to edit
Attempt to add an email address of the format <email address hidden> (possibly one that already exists in another record)
Click save
Observe all details about the contact disappear.

I closed the app and re-opened and the contact has indeed gone.

Maybe its get merged into the contact with the same e-mail. I need to check this.
