Bug Description
Ever since an upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04, my Acer laptop shuts down like a power off. I suspect its from overheating. The fan doesn't come on.

I'm seeing the same thing, but not convinced it is related to overheating. I had overheating problems with Windows, but when it shut down for that reason, it could not be powered back-up until it cooled down. After upgrading, when the spontaneous power-off occurs, I can boot again right away.
Also, adding an external USB fan helped with the previous heat issues. The new issue occurs with or without the external fan in use.
