Bug Description

I have used all the latest betas of Ubuntu 16.04 and all of them seem to have very little support for the new Intel Cherry Trail processors and power management.

When I boot my system the battery is not recognized at all. Hibernation, Suspend, and Shutdown do not work. I must press and hold the power button to power off the system.

I compiled a new Linux Kernel version 4.5 and the system will shutdown properly but no further benifits.

I don't know what it would take to get Ubuntu to recognize the battery but some work in this area would be nice.

Specific hardware:
Intel Atom x5 z8300
Intel HD Graphics VID:8086 HID:22B0
Intel Battery Management INT33FE
Intel Audio VID:8086 HID:22A8

hello justin,
I'm on ubuntu 16.04 beta2 (unity DE; hp pavilion x2 detachable z8300 on board, the same your spec) and shutdown buttons are fine out of the box.
Battery not recognized also after recompiling dsdt table.
Other wicked issues: audio (audio controller 808622A8, conexant driver), microsd reader, webcam (sensor ov5693): 4.4-4.5-4.6 kernels tested with no improvements. Also tried modprobe snd_hda_intel and snd_hda_codec_conexant and modprobe uvcvideo with no results in order of audio and internal camera issues.

I hope in hotfixes.

the battery is only (magically? :) )recognized by the kernel 4.4.33 but the system always freezes also with all kernel parameters like 'intel_idle.max_cstate=' and others. the freezing issues occur only with 4.4.x kernels.

tested kernel: 4.4.33 , 4.4.32 , 4.7.1 , 4.8.1-12 , 4.9.rc6

Update: I have fully tested on the latest release of Ubuntu (17.10)

It seems there has been some improvement. I can now suspend and shutdown without a problem and the battery is recognized!

Stability is not quite what it should be though - sometimes gnome becomes unresponsive and crashes and when I press the power button to resume from standby it turns on only to go back to sleep right away.

The audio card seems to randomly disappear too. I have to open a terminal and use Alsa to manually select and turn up the audio.

The battery indicator is good, but this still needs work.
