Bug Description
Binary package hint: thunderbird
(1) Ubuntu 8.04;
(2) Thunderbird 2.0.0.23;
(3) Thunderbird keeps its hands off my addresses;
(4) Thunderbird adds unwanted quotes to email addresses that have hyphenated names, such as : freedos-user
I enter the correct address in the address book. Later when I use the address when writing an email, I notice that quote marks have been added. This results in my posts being bounced by the freedos-user organization due to the wrong address. I ran clanscan but found nothing?
P.S. When I added a second entry for freedos-user with the name (of the address) enclosed in square brackets and in caps, Thunderbird left the address alone but put quotes around the square brackets enclosing the name of the addressee.
ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Wed Sep 9 10:46:06 2009
Dependencies:
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04
Package: mozilla-thunderbird None [modified: /var/lib/
PackageArchitec
ProcEnviron:
PATH=/
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: thunderbird
Uname: Linux 2.6.24-24-generic i686
Possible Work-around. I found that when the display name has a comma in it, that's the only time I get the quotes added. E.g.
if the display name is:
Smith, John
then email address comes out as:
"<email address hidden>
if the display name is:
Smith - John
then email address comes out as:
<email address hidden>
Hope this helps.
