Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox starts in full screen mode, without reporting itself as in full screen mode ( View->Full Screen isn't checked ). To fix it I press twice F11 (full screen shortcut).

Firefox : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.2) Gecko/2008090211 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.2
System : Intrepid up to date

Firefox also goes full screen when url is open from other desktop application. I have noticed this when I open url from pidgin or tomboy Firefox gets focus and then goes full screen. How to reproduce :

1. Open Firefox
2. Click on link in pidgin for example

Don't hesitate to request more information.

I can confirm this. It is really really annoying, as it displays over the top and bottom bar (so i can't access the other applications via the task bar). When you start it seems it only sometimes get displayed as fullscreen.

If you need a screenshot I'll be happy to provide it.

Thanks!

Same for me. It seems not properly a full screen window in F11 style, but clicking F11 twice restore the window. Perhaps have you Compiz enabled, like me?
On an Asus eeepc 901 with Ubuntu Hardy Installed I have the same behaviour on every window, but reloading Compiz solve the problem.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; it; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092515 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.3

Btw, it seems to be a compiz related problem. By disabling compiz the problem is completely solved.

Same here, with compiz on Intrepid.

Worked until yesterday. No idea which package update blew it up. I can only recall some KDE4 updates and a new kernel.

I got this fixed last night without disabling Compiz or anything. I think what I did was do the F11 trick to get it as it should be, then I unmaximised the window and found that it had no border, so I closed it in it's unminimixed state, opened it again and maximised it. The problem hasn't come back since. I'm not 100% sure if that was the correct way I did things but I know I had to unminimize the window and move it down also as the top bar was behind the Gnome top panel.

Obviously this isn't a fix per se but I hope it's of some use to a developer! =)

Ian, your window trick worked for me too.
And once it's fixed, I can't reproduce the bug any more.
I'm not sure how a developer is going to catch this bug.

Thanks man, it worked here too. Hopefully they will find soon what's the problem inside the code.
Cheers,

Ian's fix worked for me too although it wasn't very clear what he meant at first.

Basically, when you have this problem, hit F11 twice - this should bring firefox back to a normal state.
Now double-click twice on the title bar (this should resize firefox - and may well make it look a little strange due to the nature of this bug).
Now close firefox (Ctrl + Q).
Open Firefox again and double click on the title bar to maximise the window.
Problem solved!
