Bug Description

WinFF is a cross platform batch GUI for FFMPEG. It will convert most any video file that FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple formats at one time. You can for example convert mpeg's, flv's, and mov's, all into avi's (or DVD/VCD format MPEG, .3gp etc.) all at once.

i think that this package would be very useful, especially for those people who don't want to use a terminal to convert videos

The upstream author already provides Ubuntu/Debian .deb files. Maybe we should contact the author? I also think this package would be very nice in Ubuntu.

The author is unable to provide 64-bit packages for winff but I can confirm that the latest version of winff (0.41 ATM) compiles and runs without any problem under Hardy x86-64. I couldn't find any instructions on how to compile winff in its docs but it pretty simple:

1 - Install

fpc
fpc-source
lazarus

2 - Download and uncompress zip of latest winff source code somewhere

3 - Run Lazarus IDE (Applications > Programming > Lazarus )

4 - Use File/Open menu to open the file called winff.lpi, in the top level of you winff source dir

5 - Choose 'Build All' from Lazarus' 'Run' menu and then you'll find a winff binary in the source folder

Be much nicer to have it in the Ubuntu repo tho so 64-bit users don't have to do all this!

I have contacted upstream to volunteer help for packaging. When I get a positive response I will mark this bug "in progress".

I have received a positive mail from upstream, so I will be working on this package.

I have finished the packaging for Debian (which is now awaiting approval). I will have a Ubuntu package shortly I hope.

I am currently waiting for bug #260464 to be resolved. The rest is finished. Debian package is already on the queue [1] for two months, but was a long time during that period unable to build due to a bug in Debian [2], I hope it will receive some attention soon.

At the moment the thing I can do is to wait... Unfortunately.

And for the sake of completeness: I uploaded my package as it is now to revu [1] as suggested on IRC #ubuntu-motu.

Hi Tree MendUs,

Did you already have a look at the forum of the winff site?

The current link to an article featuring (part of) your question (I guess) is:
http://www.biggmatt.com/forums/index.php?topic=12.0

If that doesn't work, feel free to ask there (I think that is a more appropriate place than this bug), I read that forum.

Information about making a deb (if that is really your question) is all around the ubuntu site (I use the program pdebuild) and you could look at my diff.gz file for ideas. But I believe that the compilation for fiesty will not work out of the box, so you will need to recompile those as well (see my bug 275688).
