Bug Description

I've been using Ubuntu for some time now and have been really happy with it! But I can't install Gutsy. Every variant of the 7.10 Ubuntu I can't install it.

ACPI: DMI BIOS year==0, assuming ACPI-capable machine

This is the error displayed, and after that the Live CD won't do anything. It looks like it's loading but after some time, it starts to display some errors. I have tried with:
Ubuntu 7.10
Xubuntu 7.10
Fluxbuntu 7.10
gOS (based on Ubuntu 7.10)

I have once attempted to do a roundabout of this by upgrading to 7.10 with the Internet updates, but the result is the same. The installer was successful, but I wouldn't start Ubuntu.
However, If in the GRUB boot options I'd choose the earlier version of Ubuntu (Feisty) then it would start normally with no problems.

On Edgy, and Feisty I have never encountered any problems of this sort. Can anyone help me with this?

I have already disabled ACPI in the BIOS but it made no difference.

I can only imagine that this is something related to some aprt of the core of 7.10 since I can use 7.04 with all updates and nothing crashes.

Pentium III (Katmai) 550Mhz
MBoard: VT82c

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for adding your files. However, what will be most helpful is the output of the error and any output leading up to the error you are seeing. I know you are running the Live CD, so if you could even take a digital snapshot of what you see and attach the photo, that would be great. Thanks!

I would very much like to take a snapshot of what is happening while
I'm booting up, but I don't know how...
Using the Live CD, there's not much info, and I wouldn't want to
install the update, or I'll lose my current installation. So could you
please tell how can I take a screenshot of what appears in my screen
Or I could just write it on paper and then post it back on Launchpad,
but it's not much of a solution...

By the way, if in the Live CD I changed the linux-source-2.6.22 for a previous version could I then install Ubuntu? (or any other Ubuntu-based distro)
If yes, please tell which files I would have to change.

Hi Carlos,

Sorry my english was a little vague. By digital snapshot I meant that if you had a digital camera you could literally just take a picture your computer screen and then attach the digital photo to this report. If you'd like to write it down by hand, that is acceptable too but a but of a hassle.

Another note that might be of interest is that the Hardy Heron (8.04) Alpha2 LiveCD will be released in about 2 weeks. it will contain an updated version of the kernel. You might just want to try testing with that LiveCD once it comes out.

Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 .
