Bug Description

Suddenly wireless lost connection to AP, did not seem to re-acquire. Connected via wire, and system locked. Waited about a minute, then forced power cycle.

After reboot, /var/log/syslog showed this:

Hi Carlos,

Can you comment how readily you are able to reproduce this issue? If you are able to reproduce, can you also comment which kernel version this issue started appearing? Additionally, if you have a good reproducer, could you also give the linux-backports-modules-cw-3.3-precise-generic package a try (ie install, reboot, and run your reproducer). It provides an updated compat-wireless stack from v3.3 and thus an updated rtlwifi driver. Thanks.

I am not sure how easy it is to reproduce. It seems to be wireless load-dependent. It has happened twice so far. I will try to force it. I only saw it now, but for the last month or so I have been running on wired given that wireless seems to top at 2.5MBps, and wired gives me up to 5MBps.

Happened again. I cannot, yet, determine a repeatable sequence, but it really seems to be related to usage; playing with the wired connection (plug/unplug cable) may accelerate.

Another interesting bit: when I unplug the net wire, my mouse (USB) move much more slower. Disconnecting/reconnecting the mouse solves it.

I will try the backport: even if I do not have a guaranteed reproducer, it has happened 3 times so far today.

Hi Carlos,

Did you have a chance to test the linux-backports-modules-cw-3.3-precise-generic package? If so, can you reproduce this bug with that package installed?

Yes, I upgraded yesterday to lbm-cw-33, at around midday local. Nothing happened until about 20 min ago, when again the wireless lost the AP. I switched over to term 1, and sysreq-ed loglevel to 9. A few seconds later the system froze, and not even sysreq was active.

I am attaching a pic of the console. Perhaps someone will have a magic moment, and see something there.

It should be noted that, after upgrading to the LBM, I had *no* freezes for about 24 hours; before the upgrade I was getting 3-5 freezes per working day. May, or may not, be something (not enough data).

C de-Avillez, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:
