[Original Report]Looking at software center page, it seems that neither System Settings nor KDE System Settings is installed, while, as you can see from my screen shot I have System Settings installed in my system (by default). If I install System Settings (NOT KDE System Settings) using s/w center, when the installation ends I see both System Settings installed.

When the removal is complete the situation is the one you can see in the attached screen-shot: System Settings seems to be installed, KDE S.S. seems to be removed, the second icon is not removed, but nothing happens if I click on it. The default System Settings goes on working correctly.

Reply to Fabio's question: KDE System Settings is included in s/w centere, anyway I installed System Settings (not KDE) which was already installed in my system but seemed NOT installed

clicking on the syst-settings -> more info we can see that is for kde too, so we have a double entry pointing the same package.

so, the issue here seems to be that there are 2 packages that are easily confused in Software Center.

The first is gnome-control-center, which is the "System Settings" application that is installed by default, and shows up in the Dash, but is listed in Software center with the title of "utilities to configure the GNOME desktop"

the second is systemsettings, which is NOT installed by default, but is listed in software-center with the *same name and icon* as gnome-control-center has in the dash (but not in software-center).

IIRC, this is a big usability problem, and frankly confused me quite badly before i read the version details in software center.

My opinion is that the right fix for this issue is to have gnome-control-center more closely resemble it's installed appearance in software-center (suggest changed title and icon to match those used in Dash). This would then lead to 3(!) results for "System Settings" search term, but at least the most likely candidate would be returned in the results.

an add-on note... it looks like both of the currently returned results are for the package "systemsettings", but only 1 is listed as "KDE System Settings"

no longer affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)

Is this a problem with the packaging on one or both of these apps or with the Software Centre's interpretation of that packaging?
