Bug Description

The disc image for 20120328/precise-desktop-powerpc.iso does not boot.

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/210/builds/14368/downloads

Steps: download image, verify md5 checksum, burn disc, verify disc, try to boot

I've tried three different physical discs and two computers and none boot, so it must be the image.

Hi Lars, could you please try ubuntu powerpc to see if it is lubuntu specific or a 'core' problem. Thanks

Can you define "doesn't boot" a bit more? Does OF completely refuse to admit you even have a bootable CD in the tray, does it chain successfully into yaboot, but then fail to find a kernel, does it chain into a kernel, but then fail at some point after that? Something else I haven't covered? :)

Robert, yes, yesterday's and earlier boot.

Phill, I'm downloading the Ubuntu PPC image now it will take about 30 - 60 minutes to test.

Adam, I can start the machine and insert the CD and hold down C to boot from CD. Nothing happens except that it goes to the HD and it comes up with this menu:

First Stage Ubuntu Bootstrap
Press l for GNU/Linux
c for CDROM

Pressing C there leaves it waiting indefinitely with the message "Booting CDROM..."

Okay, if the 27th worked, then I didn't mess up the powerpc->powerpc-smp migration (cause that happened quite a while ago).

Still curious, then, to find out what "doesn't boot" means.

The Ubuntu Desktop powerpc image from 28 Mar loads as expected, so the problem seems to be the Lubuntu Desktop image.

The Lubuntu desktop image gets further than that for me in qemu. Not that that's a brilliant test, and it's slow, but it definitely gets past yaboot and into the kernel.

I've walked through the process a fourth time, following the same steps, and this time it boots as it should. Sorry for the trouble.

Changed in lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu):

Lars, that's quite okay. these things happen when we are pushing the time clock. The release team accept payment in cash, check or chocolate covered ants. I'm just mightily relieved it is okay !
