You are using cloned mode, which is the default if you've plugged in the monitor before logging in. It's using the highest common resolution for both monitors.

Can you summarize how to reproduce the bug? Is it a multi-monitor bug where unity refuses to start when using cloned mode?
Can you try to reproduce the issue with a recent version of unity / compiz? Thanks.
