Bug Description
To reproduce, either reboot the system or simply log out. The gear menu on the login screen for selecting which session to use (i.e. Ubuntu, Ubuntu 2D, GNOME, etc.) will disappear entirely. It comes back if you select a different user, however, as an easy workaround...at least until the next time you have to log in.
