Bug Description

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 2080eo multimedia laptop and on Ubuntu 10.04 everything works fine EXCEPT the digital media card reader. When I perform the 'lspci' command in terminal or 'dmesg', the card reader is not shown in the list. Even so when I enter a MMC or XD card in the slot nothing happens. The card reader has never worked for me before on this laptop and I think that there is no driver what so ever available for it. Hopefully I'm wrong and there is a solution to this slightly annoying problem.

OK I have read some forum posts on this and tried some stuff out. I think the bug should be fairly easy to be fixed. When I keep the card in the slot reader and reboot my computer the card reader is recognized and I can access the contents on the card as it should be.

lspci reports the following additional items back:
0a:00.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): JMicron Technology Corp. IEEE 1394 Host Controller
0a:00.1 System peripheral: JMicron Technology Corp. SD/MMC Host Controller
0a:00.2 SD Host controller: JMicron Technology Corp. Standard SD Host Controller
0a:00.3 System peripheral: JMicron Technology Corp. MS Host Controller
0a:00.4 System peripheral: JMicron Technology Corp. xD Host Controller

So the problem only occurs
- When you have an active session and have no card inserted, bug is that the whole Media card controller is not recognized.
- When you have an active session and have any media card inserted, bug is that the whole media card controller is not recognized resulting in no possibility to view or edit media card's content

Only after reboot with media card inserted during complete reboot cycle the controller and the media card contents is recognized and can be accessed

summary: - Digital Media Card Reader HP Pavilion dv7 not recognized
+ Digital Media Card Reader HP Pavilion dv7 is not recognized (without
+ reboot with media card inserted)

Hi Trojkolka,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
