Hi Joshua, thanks for your bug report. It seems that the problem is not in Software Center itself, but rather there's a bad line in your /etc/apt/sources.list file per the following from the attached traceback:

E:Malformed line 53 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse), E:The list of sources could not be read.

If you like, you could attach this file to the report so we could take a look at it. Alternatively, you could fix this problem yourself by taking a look at this line and commenting it out (or deleting it) if it isn't needed.

In any case, I'll set this bug as invalid as it's not a bug in Software Center. I'll track the bug though to see if you continue to have a problem after fixing up your sources.list file or would like additional assistance.

Changed in software-center (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Actually, I'll keep this open as even though this should be a rare condition, Software Center ought to handle it gracefully rather than just crash.

assignee: nobody → Gary Lasker (gary-lasker)

Thanks, I had fixed it right away actually, as I was trying to add another source, but typed it in wrong. I simply forgot I reported a bug about it, but I would agree with you that it would be nice if Software Center wouldn't crash in that case. Thanks again.
