With all the changes going on in Ubuntu and new people coming in it really is time to update the default bookmarks.

This seem like a good list that include solutions for common problems that people have on a first time install.

Lose these:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall -- the installer should be self expanatory. Otherwise it's failing in it's function.

http://ubuntuguide.org/ -- third party with ads. Looks fugly and isn't official in any way

http://gnome-look.org/ -- there are themes in the repos. We have the shiny new Ubuntu Software Center. Let's use it

http://kde-look.org -- this is for Kubuntu. AFAIK Firefox isn't the default in Kubuntu and the above also applies

http://medibuntu.org/ -- third party and the major use scenarios are taken care of by the codec installer. Any potential problem with codecs should be dealt there

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats -- same as above

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/ -- third party aka not official. Such things should be done on the *.ubuntu.com domain.

I do think that http://www.ubuntu.com/support would be a good addition to the default bookmarks, but I'm not sure how necessary it would be when we already have a bookmark that (indirectly) links to http://www.ubuntu.com/, where the Support section is already quite discoverable

Why on earth cant there be a link to http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php on the default firefox bookmarks toolbar.

Also why is the size of the browser so small width wise. Bizarre.

Anyone else think that it's strange that in the installer there are all references to ubuntu.com, but in the initial install, the firefox bookmarks point to ubuntulinux.com?

When they already have Ubuntu, we should help them dive deeper into free culture. I know it took long for me to get to know all these massively useful sites.

On the current bookmarks:
Why ubuntulinux.org and not just call it ubuntu.com like it is everywhere else?
Launchpad answers should definitely stay! The direct connection to everything else (including frequently asked questions) makes it much easier to operate than a forum.
I’m not entirely sure on Debian. If that is there, GNOME should be too. On the other hand, it is not useful for most.

Ok here's a patch. I've used the livecd to add askubuntu.com and ubuntuforums.org to the default bookmarks under the folder "Ubuntu and Free Software links". I've then exported this to a html file which is attached.

This belongs in the archive /usr/lib/firefox-11.0/omni.ja thanks.

How about adding something like http://omgubuntu.co.uk or http://dailyubuntunews.com as well.
I think https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats is very useful, because it explains how to get the DVD player functioning. Just downloading the codecs wont make libdvdcss4 work.

I'm going to downgrade the firefox (Ubuntu) task from triaged to confirmed until we can get a decision on what the new bookmarks should be. There have been a number of suggestions made already, including ubuntuformums and askubuntu, but I think we need someone to say 'These are the ones we want to include'.

Following a review of '100 Papercuts' bug reports I conclude that as Firefox is now a snap package provided by Mozilla in Ubuntu 22.04 (and other releases in due course) then bookmarks will be as provided by Mozilla and not by Ubuntu.
