ubuntu 8.10 freezes for no apparent reason

This may be a kernel problem. Freezes occur much less after upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 but they still occur.

I was just looking at the system log to find out what was going on and there, it freezes again. No firefox open or any other program.

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Small problem. Although apport and launchpadlib are installed on my system, typing apport-collect in my terminal gives the "command not found" error.

What do I need to do to make this command work? Thanks in advance.
