Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-cirrus

To reproduce, grab a recent Intrepid LiveCD and boot it up in KVM. When it reaches X, it'll hang the guest. Filing against both KVM and the Cirrus driver, as I've yet to determine whose fault it really is.

I can confirm this bug. As you said, it is either KVM's or Cirrus driver's fault.

This only happens with amd64 guests. It does not happen with amd64 guests started with -no-kvm. Hence, I'm blaming kvm, and rejecting the cirrus driver bug.

Confirmed

Note: Booting your 8.10 alpha3 guest with -std-vga on the kvm cli will also fix this (Well, here with kvm-71).

However mouse pointer is unusable.

Just built KVM-72 , and the Cirrius issue is resolved, however my mouse pointer is still unusable.

Confirmed: kvm-72 (userspace and kernel modules) fixes it. Now I just have to find the best way to fix it in Hardy.

Sorry Soren,

The issue regarding the mouse pointer was something else, I reconfigured xorg and it worked fine. Just to clear up my previous comment saying that it did not work.

This was fixed in kernel upload 2.6.26-5.16 in Intrepid.

I just tried booting the ubuntu-8.10-rc-desktop-amd64.iso with kvm

host kernel = 2.6.24-19-openvz

X fails with no options on the command like as well as with -std-vga

-no-kvm yields :

" Ubuntu does not support running KVM without hardware acceleration. Sorry."

I tried ubuntu-8.10-rc-desktop-i386.iso (same kernel) also, X starts but the mouse is not recognized :(
