Kalarm doesn't startup automatically, and is not in the notification area

Hi, in Breezy, I use Kalarm for setting alarms. My problem is that it
no longer starts up automaticaly at the gnome login, and does not
appear in the gnome notification area.

OK, I've emailed the author of this program, and he says this is basically
a problem with Ubuntu's package. It used to work on Warty Warthog so
something must have happened between now and then.

This is a side effect of:

kdepim (4:3.5.1-0ubuntu4) dapper; urgency=low

  * Add kubuntu_08_kalarm_autostart_kdeonly to prevent kalarm from starting
    automatically on GNOME (Closes: Malone #31923).
  * Add kubuntu_09_kmail_addressbook so kmail access addressbook contacts when
    composing. Fixes http://bugs.kde.org/121337

i think we probably do. There are gnome programs for alarms

Could someone perhaps provide a recommendation for such "gnome programs for alarms"? I was unable to find any that would provide the same features as Kalarm on an initial search.
