Bug Description

Lubuntu jammy QA-test install on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

but it failed; calamares issue... No prob; file bug.

I had issues filing bug, thus this additional report.

** BACKGROUND on the install & other report

calamares bug filed as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1959865 was filed online; then apport-collect run successfully on box. That link is now added to this report here as `apport-collect` was run during the same boot or live session as issue occurred.

As noted in comment #7 (of this report) and the now provided link; a end-users filing of an install issue had me attempt a 'strange' (stupid?) install; a QA-testcase we call "install using existing partition"; https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/testing-checklist-understanding-the-testcases/2743 where you just re-use existing partitions without format.. EXCEPT I was attempting it here with an encrypted partition... no mount or anything; just selecting in calamares)... it was this install type that no doubt led to this error.

** EXPECTED OUTCOME

`ubuntu-bug calamares` and file bug report via firefox..

** ACTUAL OUTCOME

Alas `ubuntu-bug` won't work with this error

Thanks Brian, for correcting package; that explains why apport-collect could not be run !

I've rebooted same daily on same box & now run apport-collect.

I've also added a link in original description to the calamares bug report that was initially filed online (browser) BUT I did run `apport-collect` DURING THE SESSION I experienced this issue.

It's not an installed system, but Lubuntu jammy daily running live, the installation failed making me want to run `ubuntu-bug`.

lubuntu@lubuntu:~$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 487M 7.5M 479M 2% /run
/dev/sdb1 1.9G 1.9G 0 100% /cdrom
/cow 2.4G 122M 2.3G 5% /
/dev/disk/by-label/writable 13G 2.4M 12G 1% /var/log
tmpfs 2.4G 0 2.4G 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 5.0M 4.0K 5.0M 1% /run/lock
tmpfs 2.4G 500K 2.4G 1% /tmp
tmpfs 487M 72K 487M 1% /run/user/999

(this will be what it looked like before calamares was started; but may differ to where I was on calamares crash/end... I can re-create rather easily currently; as I've switched Lubuntu QA-focus to 20.04.4 a few days ago so this box will have 20.04.4 rather regularly re-installed to it..

it's possible the issue relates to my attempt to install OVER an encrypted disk install; details are in the other report; exploration of a filed lubuntu bug - just seeing if that install would work really... The issue may not occur unless users do something 'strange' like what I tried (which I only exploring a end-users report; I'd not install that way if it was me installing for myself)

Apologies for not adding extra detail here - my focus was on calamares report when filed; I intended to return here to 'add more' but failed to.

Encountered this today... similar to original

Current Lubuntu jammy daily install (to same dc7700 originally filed on, though now has different GPU & more ram), calamares crashed so tried to file bug report using

`ubuntu-bug calamares`.
