Bug Description

QA-test install to
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
testcase: install with existing partition, sda1

I had a calamares failure whilst DITHERING on installer in focal.3 daily install earlier; so I'll attempt to repeat my DITHERING here and see if calamares will crash here too... ie. exploration of http://launchpad.net/bugs/1932233

ie. before get to "manual partitioning" I'll select REPLACE PARTITION, then select sda1, sda2, sda1, sda2, etc.

I didn't have it crash, so switched it to "MANUAL PARTITIONING, changed my mind & back to "REPLACE PARTITION and back to selecting sda1, sda2, sda1 etc again & keep changing my mind... (this switch to manual & back to replace partition may have been done twice)

On final switch to MANUAL PARTITION calamares window just closes.

Installed was started from menu (what I'm using today, did in focal.3 too)

This issue is of minor importance... if the OP does not dither so much, it won't occur...

(prior focal bug will be linked to this one)

Rebooted dc7700 & started install again.

This time installed started with `sudo -E calamares -d`

As before, two partitions
- sda1
- sda2

Selected replace partition; swapped from one to the other (counting 1, 2, 3.. until 10) though I may counter to 11 as I wanted to stop on sda1

switched to manual partition; then back to replace partition
again swap between sda1 & count 1, 2, 3, 4... (10 or 11 until I got to select sda1)

this is repeated until it crashes.. at times is fast, but slows down..

I can't be accurate how far I got, but it soon crashed

---
My hope was I'd see something I could take upstream (github/calamares) but I don't see anything.... (session.log just ends)

I get the feeling the constant 'change of mind' or flipping sda1 then sda2 causes details to be thrown onto a stack, which after ~20-25 times overflow/crash - but that's feeling by the operation & how it slows.. (ie. exponential growth as new PUSH contains all of prior stack + up to last change-of-mind..) but that's guess; and it's not always slower.. it fits the 'average' of the slowdown maybe..)

I don't see a 'smoking gun' so for now I'll just ignore it I think..

Let us know if this is still a recent thing. Seems like a very fun Heisenbug.
