Bug Description

Lubuntu 19.04 QA-test on motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)

Discussions in #lubuntu-devel imply this is a consequence of `fcitx` not running by default, so is likely a WISHLIST option, regardless it's MINOR as only noticed on this device because I tried to use it as if keyboard was unattached

I could NOT get the onscreen keyboard to show using only wacom pen to control mouse movements (inc. mouse buttons).

I tried to follow https://manual.lubuntu.me/3/3.1/3.1.1/fcitx.html?highlight=fcitx to enable it, but was unable.

I started `fcitx` at main menu, and the panel item appeared; but i was unable to get it working . I got to the point where a keyboard appeared on screen enabling me to use pen to input text into device, but was unable to get any text to appear in windows (qterminal, featherpad).

I'd already tried using fcitx-configuration (prefs->fcitx-config at menu) to no luck before I'd asked for assistance on #lubuntu-devel, but running `fcitx` only appeared to give panel icon without extra functionality.

I still consider this minor - most users will likely have [attachable] keyboards; my tablet does (even if it's terrible)

WXL wanted me to look at lubuntu on x86 tablet functionality & a bug report I've forgotten from 19.04 cycle. I've not yet looked at report, but just exploring (again) how lubuntu is on tablet[-pc] (ideally without keyboard)

at this point i'll only use screen/pen (no keyboard; attached as it's the stand)
FCITX config .. no idea what to do, so going to manual.lubuntu.me (3.1.1)
+10 for manual !! exactly what me (user) needs being read on another device

manual says "right click on the tray icon in the system tray that looks like a keyboard and toggle virtu.." - i can't find this. removable.media, volume, system.tray, status.notify, clock says panel widgets - so it's there... but i'm only getting devices, volume, qlippper.prefs, network, battery, battery, vlc, clock (vlc is running; music)

I can't "To bring up a configuration dialog for input method right click on the panel applet and Configure current input method." from manual..

lxqt.settings->keybd.mouse -- keyboard.layout?? nah i'm lost
lxqt.session.setting-> autostart includes fcitx Qt IMpanel but I don't see it

i'll report issues as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fcitx/+bug/1817978

As a comparison and to look some more (plus help test debian), I downloaded https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/weekly-live-builds/amd64/iso-hybrid/debian-live-testing-amd64-lxqt.iso [2019-04-22 06:17] and played with it last night. Today I'm playing again but with yesterday's [19.10] Lubuntu live-daily running on the machine next to it.

My results are the same; Lubuntu is no different to the Debian Buster (weekly) live-ISO. On both I've got the virtual-keyboard to show on panel, and on screen but I'm unable to make use of it (trying to enter a command into Qterminal)

I was able to load fcitx using wacom pen, toggle onscreen-keyboard active, connect to wifi using onscreen keyboard, browse web & everything without touching a real keyboard :)
