Bug Description

== SRU Justification ==
Recently, a couple of fixes went in vmxnet3 driver related to LRO, transmit
reset and rxvlan disabled fix. VMWare is requesting these fixes in
Bionic and Xenial.

A backport was needed to update version info in vmxnet3_int.h

== Fixes ==
7a4c003d6921 ("vmxnet3: avoid xmit reset due to a race in vmxnet3)"
034f40579389 ("vmxnet3: use correct flag to indicate LRO feature")
65ec0bd1c7c1 ("vmxnet3: fix incorrect dereference when rxvlan is disabled")

== Regression Potential ==
Low. Limited to vmxnet3 driver.

== Test Case ==
A test kernel was built with these patches and tested by the original bug reporter.
The bug reporter states the test kernel resolved the bug.

Recently, a couple of fixes went in vmxnet3 driver related to LRO, transmit
reset and rxvlan disabled fix. Below are the commits:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net.git/commit/?id=7a4c003d6921e2af215f4790aa43a292bdc78be0

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net.git/commit/?id=034f405793897a3c8f642935f5494b86c340cde7

This is a request to bring Ubuntu vmxnet3 driver up to date with ToT
Linux kernel. Could you please backport it to 16.04 and 18.04 LTS releases?

Thanks,
Ronak

I built Xenial and Bionic test kernels with the three commits 7a4c003d69, 034f40579 and 65ec0bd1c7c. The test kernels can be downloaded from:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1768143/xenial
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1768143/bionic

Can you test these kernels and see if they resolve this bug?

Note about installing test kernels:
* If the test kernel is prior to 4.15(Bionic) you need to install the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
* If the test kernel is 4.15(Bionic) or newer, you need to install the linux-image-unsigned, linux-modules and linux-modules-extra .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-failed-xenial'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Hi Brad,

As requested in Update 2, the fix was verified. Do we need to do anything else? (As per update 5 & 6)

Hi Ronak,

We ask the bug reporters to verify the fix again once the kernel is published on -proposed to make sure that the bug is really fixed with the kernel build that is going to be released and that no issue has been introduced when integrating the changes with all the other changes we are releasing.

So if you are able to test the fixes again we would really appreciate.

Thank you,
Kleber
