touchpad does not work in live session

Bug Description

to reproduce run the lubuntu-desktop 420.1 desktop amd64 image on my moms laptop off of a usb.

I have the touchpad not being able to move the cursor at all or click images. When I got a usb mouse I was able to move the cursor but still could not move the touchpad at all.

i expected the touchpad to be detected instead no touchpad seemse to be detected at all in hardinfo and synaptics says no touchpad module is loaded. I could navigate with the cursor once I put in a usb mouse.

I booted off an external hard drive I installed the i386 final to and now the touchpad works as if it only doesn't like the live session.

I also get this in xubuntu 15.04

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases your release is EOL.
