Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

Open a song. Totem started and crashed.
Open a song over totem -> crash.

received X error event: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
video_out_xv: XvShmCreateImage schlug fehl
video_out_xv: => MIT-Shared-Memory-Erweiterung wird nicht genutzt.
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 80 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 17)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Thank you for your bug. Do you use compiz, desktop effects or something similar? Does it happen without it?

what videocard and driver do you use?

Agash (frasu) wrote :

Videocard: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
Driver (at last): installed by ubuntu-package: driver "xorg-driver-fglrx" and kernel-driver "linux-restricted-modules-generic".
Driver (since 2 weeks): official driver from ATI-Website: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html

No, I think the bug was before, but I'm not sure. I think, I've used totem before 4 weeks, I had no problems. I used totem after installed the new driver: I had no problems. The bug is since few days. A friend called me, that he have the same problems since few weeks, but he think is up to data. He will, at next time, add a comment.

Could you try using the ubuntu version of the drivers?

OK, I uninstall the ATI-Driver and try fglrx.

At last: I uninstalled totem at terminal and installed package: 'totem' and 'totem-gstreamer'. Totem not crashed at play a song-file, but is a green timber at the visualization. When a play a movie the picture is jerking.

Then I uninstalled the both package and I installed the package: 'totem-xine'.
And now I have the same problem. To play a song-file totem crash. To play a movie totem has no problems.

I'm sorry for my bad, bad english.

I installed fglrx. Totem has no problem at this. But I will to use the official ATI-driver, because other programs like google-earth has no problems with the graphic-driver. With fglrx I have many programs with problems, with ATI-driver is at the moment only totem and the screensaver with problems. therefore I will use the ATI-Driver.

I also have this bug. I cannot play audio or video files; I have tried many formats (MP3, FLAC, MOV, AVI, etc).

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 (fresh install), totem-xine, and the Ubuntu-supplied fglrx driver (Radeon X1600). I have no desktop effects enabled.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at [WWW] http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .

Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Hi frasu,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

it's baaaaAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaak. :( I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 using 'update-manager -d' and ever since, when I try to play a (local) mp3 file by double-clicking it, Totem opens, and then the X session crashes completely. If I hover the mouse over an mp3, the preview plays fine. If I doubleclick a .wav file, it plays fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 136801, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
