This bug was fixed in the package edubuntu-live - 13.09.1

---------------
edubuntu-live (13.09.1) saucy; urgency=low

  * Drop conflict against unity-lens-shopping as this was breaking the
dash, instead replace this with a gsettings key in edubuntu-artwork
    (LP: #1220572).

This also broke my system after and update to the final 13.10 release, so it doesn't look fixed to me. Probably related to #1233029, as the solution for me was manually installing 'unity-scope-home'.

Why did they mark #1242377 bug as duplicate of this FIXED bug without reopening, if it appeared just after recent 13.10 update?

I did that because it apparently covers the same problem.
I unfortunately couldn't reopen this one, presumably due to missing permissions. I'd like to encourage anyone who is able to do that.

Installing 'unity-scope-home' helped indeed, but now there are no lens icons in the bottom of the dash menu.
