Bug Description

Just as the title says the "Check disc for defects" option on the live media fails to run, or even begin running in Raring. For this test I used Ubuntu i386 20130408, but I also saw this with Lubuntu i386 20130403.

OTOH it worked OK in Ubuntu GNOME i386 20130402.1.

Since we're approaching final testing this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Seems to run ok on the lubuntu AMD64+mac image from 2013-04-08, both on dvd and in a vm.

Beta2 here

With raring-alternate-i386, everything was fine. I managed to do the check for errors. I checked my LiveUSB which is created using the 'dd' method.

BUT ...

With raring-desktop-i386, the check for errors does not work at all. It will only show this - please see the attached screenshot.

Haven't tested yet the 64bit so not sure what is going on there.

@ amjjawad,

There is no fair comparison between the live and alternate images. The alternates and netboot images are based on the debian-installer (d-i) whereas the live images use casper while live, and ubiquity during installation.

So reporting the behavior of an Alternate or netboot image in this bug is not helpful.

Since you are talking about Live Media, I'm just confirming that I had the same issue and this is what I tried to explain on my post. On the other hand, I'm just mentioning the check for errors works on the other images. Whether they are the same or not, I'm just saying that :)

What does important IMHO, it does NOT work on the desktop image.

Thanks :)

I ran Check disc for defects on the 13.04 Beta 2 amd64 image and it checked OK, and then used it to install without any problems. I did the same with a 13.04 Beta 2 i386 image and the iso md5sum was OK, the burn was OK, the burn verify was OK, but the Check disc for defects resulted in a hang, and booting in with Live mode and running the Install Unbuntu also resulted in a hang (I think right after the Continue from the first setup page).

This appears to have been fixed in the Lubuntu i386 20130418 image so I'm marking this invalid.
