Installed from alternate 12.04.2 ISO image and got non LTS quantal mesa etc. but LTS quantal 3.5 kernel installed.

mesa is a userspace component. Installing an updated kernel will not upgrade mesa. Use the xorg-edgers PPA for that. https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

This is todays 12.04.2 ISO image for QA testing before release. This release wil have a new kernel and X/mesa bits.

If the LTS quantal 3.5.0 kernel as part of this point release is being instaled, then other newer components above should also be.

I apologize for marking this 'Invalid' if that was unwarranted (though I still don't understand why using a backported/updated kernel should automatically bump/update mesa version).

Because it's a complete hardware enablement stack. You're not supposed to
mix and match components from different stacks, and doing so is untested and
not guaranteed.

This should be fixed in my latest respin of the precise dailies, but I'd like some folks to do some testing and confirm that it all installs and looks sane.
