installer stuck in download packages even if not connected or download not selected

Hallo
Testing Ubuntu amd64 Desktop 20120909.
Started an installation in VBox with broken network, the installer do its work till to download packages (retrieving package 43 of ...Ign http://it.archive.ubuntu.com quantal-backports Release) and it wait infinitely without understand that the network is present but not working and so skip the step.
changing the settings of the VM from nat to bridged it immediatly start downloading .

This ooccurs when you have a connected network, but not internet access. Apt should be timing out here, but itsn't.
