g00gle04's fix worked for me too. It looks like ibus has some unspecified dependencies.

thanks so much to g00gle for the tip on the missing packages!!!!!!!

this is not just for the lubuntu file manager (pcmanfm).

this makes ibus input on lubuntu NOT WORK. Fix the dependencies for ibus in the lubuntu repos already!!!!!! it has been a long time that this is not working.

Thanks for lubuntu, and please get this fixed! :)

(running Lubuntu 12.10)

For those on lubuntu 13.04, the issue is still present and the missing dependencies break the IBus installation altogether. I had to use g00gle's suggestion in conjunction with reinstalling ibus:

$ sudo apt-get install libappindicator1 python-appindicator python-gconf python-glade2 python-pexpect
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall ibus

I logged out and in and everything was as expected.
