This server seems to be having some locale issues since I started the upgrade process:

$ ls
ls: unrecognized prefix: hl
ls: unparsable value for LS_COLORS environment variable

If I exit the ssh session and then reconnect (still before reboot, but after update-manager terminated) that something is amiss in the environment specifically due to the upgrade.
