Just tried with the latest "
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com//daily-live/current/quantal-desktop-i386.iso" ,
and the problem still exists.
step :
1. Download and install the i386 desktop iso in VB
2. Single click the "dash home" button and wait for 3-4 seconds after you
first time login the system
then you will find the problem still exists.

Yes, it's unity-2d. The attachment is the screenshot.
And I think I know why you can not reproduce it: you know, during my installation, in the "where are you" part, the city the installer provides is Shanghai or Harbin, with this city, I can reproduce the bug all the time. I tried with choosing New York in this step, the bug can not be reproduced.

So, just to confirm - Victor, does this bug only happen for unity-2D? Or is it the same case for unity-3d?

Hi there, I want to ask how you have installed unity-2d on Quantal? Can you give me more details?

Note that Unity-2d has been removed from the CD. When you install the above CD images, only Unity is available. Installation of Unity-2D on Quantal seems broken for me.

Question: have you enabled 3D graphics support in Virtual Box when you install Quantal?
Thanks

Hey,
I'm unable to reproduce on Precise either. Logging in always has a few default apps in the Dash. Zeitgeist was patched to make this so.

However I've given sil2100 a patch that I guess will fix this. Please try it and let me know. Or else can you give me clearer instructions on how to reproduce this bug, i.e. point me to an ISO that you used, and step by step instructions on what you do.

Thanks
-G

@Gerry Boland
The daily images that Victor used are from 4th June, so it's still the time when Unity-2D was on the CD (since these are really old daily images).

@Victor Zhou
But as Gerry mentioned, could you try reproducing the issue on Precise? Since if it's not reproducible on Precise, there is no use in devising a fix since Unity-2D is no longer available in Quantal (it has been removed from the CD and it currently has installation issues on it). If you can reproduce this issue on Precise, I will prepare some test packages for you with the aforementioned fix that Gerry made.

@Łukasz Zemczak,
tried to install precise desktop amd 64 build 20120817.3 in virtualbox with choosing Simple Chinese as the installation language and shanghai as the time zone. I tried to log out and log in many times to reproduce the bug after the installation, and some times this bug appears.

Excellent, thanks! Let me prepare some packages for you to test. Will give you the PPA once they're ready.

Ok, I prepared a package for you in my PPA, here:
https://launchpad.net/~sil2100/+archive/precise

The ppa is: ppa:sil2100/precise
Just add it, apt-get update and upgrade unity-2d to the version that's in the PPA. It includes the proposed fix by Gerry. Tell me if it fixes the problem!
Thanks!
